Closet Doors

When I got in the house I was worried that we would have to buy new doors.  It turns out we don't.  After a coat of white paint and new hardware, these are looking great! The image below is where I am starting to paint the doors.  

Tip: I wanted new handles.  I bought new kitchen handle pulls for the doors not realizing that the thickness of the door is larger than the thickness of a cabinet.  A store worker then told me all I need is a new screw to add to existing handle!  Now I get to use the pulls that I picked out! 

Painting Wood Trim White

I wanted all the trim in the house to be white.  It was a light oak.  Here is the hallway with just the primmer.  From here it needs two coats of white semi-gloss paint.  I added just one coat and you could see though a little.  The last coat gave it really what it needed.  No, I have added more painters tape, and will need to add two more coats to what already is there. 

Kitchen handles

I really like these new handles.  I think it modernizes the old cabinets.  This will keep me away from painting them white for a while.  And since I am painting the entire house, I am ok with that :).

So we have been busy lately!  You can see a lot in this picture.  Let me point out that the curtains are down, and the hinges are off.  The light plates are off the wall.  The rug is gone and swept.  The border is down.  The tack strips are done.  :)  We are getting there. My parents are coming up this weekend and we are going to paint, paint, paint!  So far this is moving along pretty quickly!

Casino Inspiration

We went to the Casino this weekend.  There are some great restaurants there that have some great design tips. This is a picture in country kitchen.  I loved how they added while labels to the walls.  There are lots of ideas to arrange wine corks but not labels.  They also added this wall of crates.  I think this would be a great idea for a dividing wall in a house. 

Another idea I had from the casino, that I did not take a picture of because my husband was getting embarrassed,  is putting ceiling lights on the wall as wall sconces.  I thought it really made a statement.  Really everything makes a statement in a casino!

Today is the BIG Day!

No move drive bys!  The house will be ours today.  We do our walk though and paperwork today.  Say a little prayer for us as we start our new journey together!

Saving Electricity!

We did not even move in yet, and we are I am worrying about electricity usage. This is my first time paying home bills (sad but true).  I saw this smart strip on Oprah.  We think we may buy them for both computers and the main tv. Do you use power strips at your house?  Do you turn them off?

Let the Count Down Begin!

We officially close this Wednesday!  Any tips before closing? We have started the process of changing over the utilities yesterday.  I am kinda excited about the recycling!  I won't be packing yet, because of the renovations that we will be completing.  It is good we still have our "free" apartment for as long as we would like.  

 

One tip I found from Our Family Place is "Leave your emotions outside the door. You will have plenty of time to swoon over your new home--now is the time to make sure the house is as you expected it to be."  This will be a hard one for me.  Soo excited!!

Creating a Paneled Look on Doors

There are many wood doors in our house.  Before I repaint them all, I though about adding trim to them.  This will give the doors a fresh look.  Better Homes and Gardens also suggests this.  I think that the difference looks great!  

Update:  After looking at Lowes at trim, The trim for each door would cost about $15 each.

More Stairs Thoughts!

After thinking about the stairs a little, I thought about the HGTV green House this year. Remember the beautiful glass in the staircase?  I did! I would love to add something similar to this to the stairway.    Possibly starfish instead? I love the glass idea though.The big difference in my stairwell is that there is not a window in the stair case, so there is no natural light.  I think that is what makes the glass pop so well in these images.

To Do List- Stairs

Ok, yes we still did not close on the house.  This will be a down the road project.  But I can still get excited about it now right?  On Thrifty Decor Chick she posted about completing her staircase again.  I love the idea to add boards to the walls to give it more depth. Inexpensive too!   Here are some pictures of what my current space looks like and what hers looks like:

A Girl Can Dream... Right?

Well... we still did not close on the house yet.  But I have a few thoughts up my sleeve for the outside of the house. I drive by the house probably once a day so I have some ideas in my head.  Here is what the house currently looks like.Then I photophoped in a few things to put on my to-do list.  You can click on the picture to make it bigger.  What else would you add? 

 

 

Lights!

After a couple trips to Lowe's I have decided on these three lights.  The kitchen, dining room, and living room are basically one large L shaped room in this house.  The first one is for the dining room, the second for the kitchen, and the third for the living room.  They are all brushed nickel from Lowes.   I am not sure about the living room light.   What do you think?

The Evolution of a Bedroom

 

I have posted my bedroom on HGTV rate my space before.  Here is what it looked like in picture 1.  I just got the red comforter for Christmas.  It turns out it was not very comfortable.    It received 2.8 stars.  Then I changed it to picture 2 .  This room only received 2.3 stars.  Even though it did not look it in the picture, I felt more relaxed in this room.  The furniture in these pictures were all given to us.  When I felt it was time I bought our own furniture.  This is the bedroom furniture that will be coming to the house.  The last is picture 3.x  I bought a new bed and side tables.  They bed I found online and asked a local store if they will let me purchase it for the same price and they said yes!  They even delivered the bed and set it up for free!  The side tables are from target.  I was thinking about getting a single piece of granite and adding it to the top of each table.  

What will the bedroom look like at the house?  We will see!
